The wrapper for this bar for Gaza was designed by Mohammad Al-Assar, who lives in Deir Al-Balah, Gaza. He designed the wrapper between bombings, using his laptop and solar panel to search for Wi-Fi in the city center.

Five euros per bar will be donated to the Palestine Fund of the Plant an Olive Tree Foundation. In total, we will sell 2,000 bars: 1,000 via the webshop and 1,000 via our stores.

Message from Mohammed:

This chocolate wrapper was designed by me, Mohammad Al-Assar, a graphic designer from Gaza, living in Deir Al-Balah and a father of two little children. I have been forcibly displaced from my home multiple times under heavy bombardment. Recently, the building my family and I lived in was destroyed in an airstrike.

Despite all the hardship, I continue to work, driven by one purpose: to feed my children and keep them from going to sleep hungry. When asked how much I would like to be paid for designing this wrapper, I humbly replied:

“Two chocolate bars – one for each of my kids.”

It has been more than six months since my children, both under the age of six, have asked me for a simple piece of chocolate. I never know how to answer them.

This wrapper carries more than just a design.
It carries my love as a father, my sacrifice, and my silent cry for dignity.

The bar is a milk chocolate bar filled with Pistachio Künefe Filling.

Ingredients: milk chocolate (cocoa mass, cane sugar, cocoa butter, MILK powder, emulsifier: rapeseed lecithin), white chocolate (sugar, cocoa butter, whole MILK powder, emulsifier: SOYA lecithin, natural vanilla flavouring), PISTACHIO paste 10%, ALMOND paste, kadayif 7% (WHEAT flour, water), butter (MILK), cocoa butter, sea salt.

Contains at least 41% cocoa solids.

Allergens: Contains milk, nuts (almond, pistachio), soya, and gluten.

    Yes! All our chocolate is made from organically certified cocoa beans. Our mission is to make the tastiest chocolate in the Netherlands, with a positive effect on the environment and society. We want to be an example for other traditional family businesses. Would you like to know more about this? Go to our mission page.

    How will my chocolate order be delivered?

    We deliver the products that can be shipped by post. With the chocolate product you can see whether it will fit through the letterbox or will be delivered as a package. Packages can also be delivered to a parcel point. We use PostNL. If you order before 3:00 PM on a working day, your product will be delivered the next day.

    Is De Bonte Koe chocolate gluten-free?

    All our chocolate, with the exception of the sugar-free chocolate bars, peppernuts and granola, is gluten-free.

    How long does De Bonte Koe chocolate last?

    Solid chocolate has a shelf life of 6 months. Our chocolates and bouchées have a shelf life of 2 months.

    Can I add a personal card to the order?

    Yes this is possible! Add your message in the notes at check out. We will add a handwritten card to your chocolate order.
