In 1992, the Irish Carmel Klein Kelly, started a chocolate studio with her brother-in-law Cees Klein, out of love for the divine chocolate product, at the Lange Haven in Schiedam. There, the gin scents of a three-century-old distillery gave way to cocoa scents. Many years later De Bonte Koe has grown into a chocolate phenomenon with a historical home base in Schiedam, a modern chocolate concept store in The Hague and a store in Rotterdam. De Bonte Koe is known for its fresh bonbons, which are made by hand by the family every week according to the same recipe as 30 years ago.
